Dürer was very successful in his lifetime. He revolutionized northern European art by combining different aspects of Netherlandish and Italian art. He is also well-known for his wood cuts and engravings and he actually felt himself at more ease as a printmaker rather than painter. He painted exquisite watercolors; his portrait paintings have strong lines, emotional expressions and complexity of design. Dürer was fascinated with plants, animals and landscapes which were also often his subjects.
Artist’s Quote: “There lives no man upon the earth who can give a final judgement upon what the most beautiful shape of man might be.”
