Frederic Edwin Church

(1826-1900)

Frederic Church chose to concentrate on nature in its purest state. He widely explored the American continent. Church had an amazing skill – changing the texture of his paints. In his paintings, the emphasis is on the light – the several sources of light create a contrast in the pictures that highlights the beauty and detailed imagery in the painting. The lighting in his paintings is dramatic, colors – bright, details – sharp and viewpoints – high, which gives a birdlike feeling.
