Klimt was a decorator by profession and later developed a highly original, sensitive painting style. He was a leader of the Vienna Secession – a group of artists and craftsmen who revolted against the conservative and moralizing works of the previous generation. The style is also known as Art Nouveau. Klimt worked through suggestion rather than description in order to touch the inner feeling. His works are mostly recognizable by his use of gold and decorative textures in his paintings as well as the hidden faces of people.
