Jacopo Pontormo

(1494 – 1557)

Pontormo was a talented painter. He mostly painted portraits with elongated and arrogant poses and a sharp observation of character. He used irrational compositions – figures in complicated but frozen poses, distorted shapes and intensely brilliant and bright hues are characteristic to his work. He was one of the originators of Mannerism.
