ABOUT THE ARTIST
Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920)
Elongated, angular lines and the almost sculptural quality of the sitter’s face are typical to Amedeo Modigliani’s work. His portraits are very recognizable – they are highly stylized, simplified, poetic, decorative and moody. He developed his own style of painting and was not closely affiliated to any art movement; however, he achieved this by taking a bit from everything with his main influences being Cubism, African sculpture and the works of Paul Cézanne. The main characteristics of his work are inclined heads with long faces on long necks, as well as elongated noses and almond-shaped eyes.
